Ryan Reynolds And Hugh Jackman Team Up To Break The Internet Over 'Deadpool 3'

Less than 24 hours after Ryan Reynolds took to his official Twitter profile to casually drop a bomb on Deadpool and X-Men fans about the future of Deadpool 3 and Hugh Jackman’s shocking return to the franchise, the two actors are at it again, collaborating for a follow-up that Ryan dubs a “quick explainer video”. Over the course of the 77-second runtime, the two long-time frenemies speak about Deadpool 3’s place in the canon, what to expect from the story, and their love and gratitude to Kevin Feige and the MCU.

Given that the character of Wolverine met with a pretty definitive end in the 2017 James Mangold-directed Logan, an R-rated swansong that stands apart in the annals of superhero film, what does that mean for his return in the Deadpool threequel? Well, wouldn’t everyone like to know? Reynolds and Jackman promise to answer such questions as they sit side by side on the couch and proceed to act out the high points of the film’s story with animated and exaggerated theatrics. Unfortunately, their explanation of the multiple pantomimed stabbings with swords and claws, along with their exclamations of shock and excitement, is completely unintelligible as their dialogue is suddenly faded down and the sounds of Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” take over the audio.

Once they power through this miming routine, Ryan begins clapping and the song drops out for long enough for Ryan and Hugh to excitedly say “thank-you” to Kevin Feige and the MCU. The chorus of the Wham! tune begins to play over a slideshow of several polaroids of the two actors together, lingering in conclusion on one that includes Free Guy and The Adam Project director Shawn Levy who is also slated to direct Deadpool 3.

Not surprisingly, the video has taken on a life of its own. At press time, it had been liked well over 600K times, and it has over a quarter-million retweets. While it doesn’t answer a single question fans will have for the film, it certainly has whetted the appetite of those who are excited to see mutants come into the MCU in a big way.

Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan are streaming now on Disney+. Deadpool 3 is set to release on September 6, 2024.
