‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Re-Release Puts Film In IMAX Top Ten Of All Time
Disney and Lucasfilms announced plans to re-release Rogue One in select IMAX theaters in preparation for the release of the Disney+ spin-off series Andor in early August. The film hit 250 IMAX locations this past weekend, and it looks like their decision paid off.
The 2016 film made roughly $1 billion during its original theatrical run, and with a budget of roughly $265 million, the film was a huge box office success. The re-release of the film brought in an additional $1 million in ticket sales bringing its lifetime IMAX total to $105 million. Rogue One has now secured a spot as one of the top 10 highest-grossing films ever released in the IMAX format.
Rogue One tells the story of the fearless crew that stole the Deathstar plans leading to the Rebel Alliance’s successful destruction of the ship in Star Wars: A New Hope. The re-release of the film featured an exclusive look at the upcoming spin-off series Andor that is coming to Disney+ in September. Andor will tell the story of Cassian Andor as he goes from thief to rebel spy over the course of five years with season two of the show ending only a few days before the start of Rogue One.
Andor is set to premiere on Disney+ on September 21.
