While speaking to Variety at the LA premiere of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Rian Johnson says that working on Star Wars was the high point of his life.

The LA premiere for the latest Knives Out film saw the cast and crew appear at the Academy Museum for the exclusive event, where the press could access the talent behind the film. In speaking with Rian Johnson, the director talked about how important it was to them for this film to have a theatrical release, despite being funded by Netflix.

Getting around to his next projects, Johnson joked that he had the script for his new Star Wars film on his phone. Then, getting serious, he said that the third Knives Out film would be his focus. While it could take years to get to other projects, his intent is still to get to them. Including work on his next Star Wars project, which he prays to God he’ll be back to someday.

Having been a part of the Star Wars sequel trilogy with his film The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson has been in talks for many years about creating his own trilogy within the galaxy far, far away. However, with Netflix having ordered two new Knives Out films when they acquired the rights to the franchise in 2021, Johnson has so far been unable to make that return.

For those who admire Johnson’s work, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is set to get a one-week limited theatrical run starting 23 November before it arrives on Netflix in December. The series Poker Face, a mystery-comedy-drama made for the streaming service Peacock, is set to arrive in January 2023.
