Fans looking for new adventures in the Star Wars universe are in luck.  Respawn Entertainment just announced on Twitter this week that a new Star Wars first-person shooter (FPS) game is in the works, led by long-time game developer Peter Hirschmann.

The as-yet-unnamed game is reportedly inspired by recent Star Wars FPS titles like Star Wars: Dark Forces and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. Respawn’s official announcement states that the game will be “developed from the ground up leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5,” a real-time 3-D creation tool. The company set the bar high for the new release, stating, “We’re combining this inspiration and technology with Respawn’s pedigree for making best-in-class shooters to deliver a brand new experience our players will love.”

Hirschmann, one of the lead developers on other fan-favorite games like Battlefront II (2005) and The Force Unleashed (2008), has also served as the VP of Product Development of LucasArts. Since then, he has helmed over 55 video game titles at Respawn Entertainment, including many successful additions to the Star Wars canon.

While Respawn Entertainment has yet to release a name or synopsis for the game, the success of their previous Star Wars releases, including Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the recent sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, boasts a promising future for this new FPS. While most details for the game are still under wraps, fans are sure to be anticipating new adventures in the galaxy far, far away.
