There is some exciting news report this weekend. A new Disney+ Star Wars series is now in production mode. This show is geared more toward the younger fanbase, but we are all kids at heart, right? During Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022, director Jon Watts described the upcoming Skeleton Crew as “a story about a group of kids, about 10 years old, from a tiny little planet who accidentally get lost in the Star Wars galaxy.”

The big news is that filming has begun in late June of this year at the Manhattan Beach Studios, the same studios where The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Book of Boba Fett were filmed at. Ahsoka is also being filmed at the same studios right now! Skeleton Crew will also be filmed at other locations in Southern California such as Culver City and California State University in Dominguez Hills.

Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy spoke to ComicBook.com earlier about the series:

“Jon Watts came to me, very much wanting to do a sort of Goonies in Star Wars. Needless to say, I’m going to say yes. And so it’s evolved out of that kind of enthusiasm in wanting to tell stories in space.”

Concept art has shown the series to be a sort of Amblin-style space similar to films like E. T. and Goonies. Skeleton Crew is directed and produced by Jon Watts and stars Jude Law in the lead role. No premiere date has been set for the series as of right now, but it looks to be some time in 2023.
