R2-D2 & C-3PO Reportedly To Be Featured In Kenobi Series
When it comes to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, people have long imagined that this story would feature Kenobi solely on Tatooine, since it is his mission to watch over Luke Skywalker as he is raised by his aunt and uncle. However, the announcement last year that the show would feature a rematch of sorts between Kenobi and Darth Vader started to shift people's expectations of what the show could be like. Some fans have come to believe that something may happen that would cause Kenobi to go offworld, since having Vader face him in person on Tatooine would not really make sense. And there has also been the question of whether there might be even more familiar characters in the series.
Recently, there was a report that a 10-year-old Princess Leia portrayed by Vivien Lyra Blair. While Leia seems as though she would not have met Obi-Wan Kenobi prior to the original trilogy, there are ways to work around this. Kenobi's mission could be to try and rescue Leia from something, and there are ways that he could help her without actually bumping into her. It would just need to involve some creative thinking outside the box. At the moment, there is no official word about whether Leia may appear. However, LRM Online recently reported the following:
"Yes, it makes sense if Leia is around, so might Artoo and Threepio be? However LRM can exclusively reveal that both Artoo and Threepio will make an appearance within Obi-Wan Kenobi. Again we cannot say how big a role they have, but they are in it."

If Leia is indeed in the series, then it might not be so much of a stretch to have Captain Antilles and the droids involved somehow. Of course, this would be another situation where the people in charge of the show would need to work around what seems to be the implied background via the films. Just going off of what we have previously seen on the screen, it seems as if Artoo and Threepio have not encountered Kenobi between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Threepio had his memory wiped in the former, and he has no idea who Kenobi is in the latter, and he does not seem familiar with Tatooine. Come to think of it, maybe Threepio not encountering Kenobi is the only thing that needs to be consistent in this case. Is it possible that Artoo could bump into Kenobi, and still have this mesh well with the original film?
Of course, it could simply be the case that this pair of iconic droids just appear for a cameo. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, they were shown at the Rebel base on Yavin 4 for just a few seconds. They were not heavily involved in the main events of that film, but they were shown. And at the end of The Mandalorian season 2, Artoo had a cameo alongside Luke Skywalker. If Leia is in this show, I could imagine a scenario where, at the end of it all, she reunites with perhaps her parents and/or Captain Antilles, and Artoo and Threepio are just there for a quick moment. If they are in the show, then we probably would not know how involved they are until we actually watch it. Disney and Lucasfilm like to try and keep some of these things under wraps, so we will just have to see what ends up being true of the series, which is expected to air on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
