New Moon Knight Featurette, Posters, And 'No Attachment To The Current MCU'
Marvel is continuing its promotional push in the leadup to the release of the Moon Knight television series. Moon Knight is a character that is completely new to the Marvel live-action arena although he is no stranger to readers of Marvel comic books. Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant and Marc Spector/Moon Knight. The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers that he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc's enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.
Following the Big Game TV Spot trailer that was released during the Super Bowl this past February, Marvel has now dropped the “Introducing Moon Knight” featurette.

It kicks off with a very cool transformation clip and then has some footage of Ethan Hawke and Oscar Isaac talking about the show along with some behind-the-scenes footage as well. Alongside the “Introducing Moon Knight” featurette, Marvel has also released three new posters for the upcoming series depicting the different identities of Steven Grant, Marc Spector, and Moon Knight.
Marvel recently sent out a Moon Knight press briefing about the series. Executive producer Grant Curtis explained how exciting it was to be dealing with the character of Moon Knight from scratch and build his story from the ground up:
"There are multiple aspects of Moon Knight that get us internally jazzed at Marvel Studios. But one of the unique aspects of this character is it's taking Marvel Studios to its Iron Man and Tony Stark roots. That was a character that was obviously built from the ground up, and it is the same with Marc Spector."
There has been a lot of speculation over how and when Moon Knight fits into the current Marvel Cinematic Universe. Curtis explained that the Moon Knight series is not linked to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU):
"There's no attachment to the current MCU. He's brand-new, and he is going on a brand-new adventure. We really think the fans are going to enjoy it,”
Of course, this does not mean that Moon Knight is not placed somewhere within the current MCU. It could just mean that the Marc Spector and the Moon Knight story does not have any links to any of the MCU characters or stories told thus far whether they be in the movies or in the television series that have been released to date. However, it would be highly improbable for the Moon Knight series to be completely cut off from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is more than likely that at some point down the line the story will get integrated into the rest of the story arcs in some manner.
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer, has described Moon Knight as “brutal.” He has said that the series will push the boundaries for other upcoming Marvel content released on Disney+. This is not really surprising given that we are about to see the Netflix shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher appear on Disney+ along with a new set of parental controls for the platform. It would be hard to imagine a Moon Knight series that was not gritty and hard-hitting given how the character is portrayed in the comic books. Sanitizing Moon Knight in the Disney+ series would do the character a great disservice.
Moon Knight will begin streaming exclusively on March 30th on Disney+.
