There exists a wide variety of movie genres, and none seem to bring in a wide range of movie-goers like the superhero genre. Marvel Studios in particular has never appeared to have much trouble appealing to Marvel fans, as well as anyone else who might find enjoyment in superheroes. With its current, subtly named, entry, The Marvels, looking to release in November of 2023, Marvel Studios aims to expand the interest with heroes such as Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau starring in the limelight this time around.

Unfortunately, while other Marvel movies, such as Captain Marvel, tend to reach over $150 million in sales within the first week, The Marvels is struggling to hit 50% of that after four weeks. With the movie releasing on November 11th, no one truly knows the extent of how ticket sales will go. While Marvel tends to do better than DC at the box office, the current projection shows that The Marvels could struggle against the likes of Black Adam or The Flash

What are the reasons for such poor sales? The biggest, and most obvious one, comes from the multitude of labor union strikes, from both the acting and writing side of production. With the AMPTP failing to compromise with SAG-AFTRA's demands, this would no doubt lead to difficulties with filming any major motion picture. Advertisement also becomes an issue in this regard, since guild members refrain from interviews that would shine their next role in any positive light. Without the help of actors to illuminate the 'pizazz' The Marvels has to offer the fans, Marvel Studios isn't left with much else to show.

Of course, it's also entirely plausible that many superhero fans and movie-goers are burnt out with the MCU, not wanting to keep up with any superhero that doesn't spark a fan's interest. Until the film itself is released, however, one can only speculate on the overall quality of both the acting and the writing. After all,  pre-sale numbers don't mean much if the movie isn't viewable yet.
