Polka-Dot Man Actor Adopts Stray Cat And Gives It His Costume
Fan favorite The Suicide Squad actor David Dastmalchian is continuing to increase his popularity thanks to images he posted online of him and the cat he adopted wearing a tiny version of his Polka-Dot Man costume from the aforementioned film.
The new film, directed by James Gunn and released recently, has been an absolute hit with fans and has gone on to receive critical acclaim. It saw the return of characters from the first movie, played by the same actors, such as Viola Davis and Margot Robbie, as well as some lesser known characters like Polka-Dot Man. The film had a star-studded the cast with names like Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Peter Capaldi, and Sylvester Stallone.

Polka-Dot Man is a villain many will not be familiar with. However, his history can be traced all the way back to the early 1960's. Believe it or not, he actually started life as a very minor Batman villain. Adner Krill, would pull off various robberies whilst wearing a polka-dot themed suit, which allowed him to summon various weapons and gadgets by throwing the dots (remember it was the 60's). When one thinks of Batman, there are a plethora of villain names who come to mind, but Polka-Dot Man certainly isn't one of them. This led to many fans being surprised at the character's inclusion.
The character's name, however, has been on most people's lips following the release of the film, thanks in large part to the incredible performance by actor David Dastmalchian. He brought the character to life in a way very few expected. Dastmalchian manages to merge both comedy and drama when portraying the character, and allows it to grow into something bigger than originally envisioned. The character was supposed to be a minor villain to begin with.
With images he has posted on Instagram, he has shown his love for the character, as he has had a miniature version of his costume made for a cat he adopted, Bubblegum (full name Abner Bubblegum Polka Dot Cat). The photos have them modelling the outfit together and includes a personal message from the actor regarding adopting pets, which you can check out below. You do have to agree Bubblegum looks great:
Despite his fan pleasing performance, there are several reasons for it being unlikely we will see the character return, but not impossible. Interestingly, it is not Dastmalchian's first time appearing in a movie focusing on DC characters. You may remember him from 2008's The Dark Knight, in which he played one of Joker's thugs. He is the one Harvey Dent captures in the back of an ambulance, and he threatens to shoot him until Batman shows up to stop him. He also appeared in both Ant-Man films from the MCU in the role of Kurt, one of Scott Lang's "friends." He is a great actor to watch on screen and always gives 100% in any role he takes on, but his recent post shows he is a genuine nice guy off screen as well. A side we've never really seen due to the characters he has played in the past.
Whilst it is entirely possible the character could show up again somewhere down the line with comic book movies being what they are, fans will always remember the character thanks to his time in the limelight during The Suicide Squad. If this one movie is all we are going to get of him, then Dastmalchian should be proud of what he managed to do for the character and for introducing him to an entirely new generation of fans.
For now though, it's just nice to see him trying to make a difference and be the hero for a change.
