Pokémon Company Plan To Investigate ‘Palworld’
It seems there is a lot of controversy surrounding the recent “Pokémon killer” Palworld. The game is essentially ARK and Pokémon mixed, but some have observed that several of its designs may be too similar to Nintendo’s Pocket Monsters. In fact, it seems The Pokémon Company has gotten wind of these similarities. They released a statement, saying:
"We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024…We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon. We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokémon and its world, and work to bring the world together through Pokémon in the future.”

The game has been rather successful, selling eight billion units in less than six days. However, since its release, the game has been controversial. The Pal designs have been heavily scrutinized and compared to Pokémon designs to the point where accusations of asset theft have been thrown around. Palworld denied this and claimed their game was closer to Ark Survival Evolved and Valheim than Pokémon. Despite this, the comparisons between the Pals and the Pocket Monsters have continued. Whether or not legal action will be taken has yet to be seen.
