In a move that would make J. Jonah Jameson say he was right; on March 16, a man dressed as Spider-Man walked into the Gaming Giant in Fairfax, Virginia, and stole $10,000 worth of Pokémon and other trading cards. This is merely the latest in a growing number of card heists that have happened over the years, as trading card games remain a profitable business. Dressing up as everyone’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, however, is certainly a novel move, and one that conjures up a somedic image. The store’s owner has posted on Facebook about the theft and has already identified the prime suspect.
“Spider-Man” has been identified by the store as 20-year-old Joel Brown. Before the incident, Mr. Brown had been casing the establishment, inquiring about specific cards. That Friday night, the “Spider-Man” broke down the store’s front door and made off with the $10,000 collection. The store shared photos, and authorities were able to identify Brown as the prime suspect, putting him into custody before being released on an unsecured bond. He has no idea as to the perpetrator's motive, though he can be sure he wasn’t bitten by a radioactive card gamer. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the authorities.
