PlayStation Will Reportedly Add Discord Voice Chat By The End Of The Year
PlayStation is going to try to get you to talk. No, it’s not an interrogation, but the Sony-owned gaming console platform is reportedly adding Discord voice chat soon. Discord, of course, has grown very popular with voice chat, video chat, and its community servers. Screen sharing on the app has allowed for livestreaming, and the platform has been known to be used for non-gaming purposes such as podcast recording and even company meetings. The addition of Discord’s voice chat for PlayStation expands upon these types of utilization, as last year they partnered to let players share what game they’re currently playing, similar to what was in the 3DS Friends List.
This news follows last month’s confirmation that rival console Xbox, owned by Microsoft, would also be adding Discord voice chat; in fact, it’s already rolled out in a limited capacity. Full integration for PlayStation is not expected for the 6.00 update in mid-September, but will likely be part of the the 7.00 update expected by the end of 2022.

Sources encourage the mutual benefits, though Discord has been rising pretty well on its own. Multiplayer games have probably just seen another facet of the experience come its way.
