This week, Pixar released a new teaser trailer for its next feature film, Elemental- turning up the temperature after warming audiences earlier this year with a sneak peek during the studio's segment of September's D23 Expo. Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur, 2015) returns to Pixar to direct, while Denise Ream (Men in Black, Star Wars) is the producerPixar's Elemental follows the chance connection that sparks between two young adults in bustling Element City- in a world "fire-, water-, land- and air-residents" all co-exist and live together.

The trailer introduces Element City by opening on the tough fire resident Ember, voiced by Leah Lewis, as she puts on her headphones and boards the city's version of a subway system- a water-way train. Ember walks through the carriages and passes an array of people going about their day- which gives Pixar a chance to show off their varied designs for the city's residents and their humourous interactions.

Various visual gags put an elemental twist on daily situations anyone might experience on their daily commute- such as applying makeup, crying children, and being sneezed on by a stranger- but come to a stop when Ember's headphones get knocked off. As she reaches onto the ground for them, someone else does too. A drop of water lands on her hand, sizzling when it hits her- introducing go-with-the-flow water resident Wade, voiced by Mamoudou Athie. Wade apologises, to which Ember responds by taking down her hoodie- and the teaser ends with a cut to black as the pair introduce themselves.

Elemental will release in cinemas on June 16th, 2023. It will be the studio's only theatrical release after this year's Turning Red (dir. Domee Shi) and Lightyear (dir. Angus MacLane) until 2024.
