Pat Carroll, Veteran Actress, Has Passed Away At Age 95
The world has lost its sea witch and Grandma Arbuckle. Pat Carroll passed away from pneumonia at her Cape Cod home on July 30 at the age of 95. She was best known for voicing Ursula in Disney’s The Little Mermaid (1989).
Patricia Ann Carroll was born on May 5, 1927 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her career began as a civilian acting technician in the United States Army. She then appeared in many theater productions as a member of Actors Studio. She was also a regular on many television shows, portraying Bunny Halper on Make Room for Daddy (also known as The Danny Thomas Show), and Hope Stinson on the final season of Too Close for Comfort (also known as The Ted Knight Show). After taking part in many variety shows of the 1950s and gameshows of the 1970s, she moved on to voice acting in the 1980s. Her most notable voice roles were Katrina Stoneheart in the original Pound Puppies, and Jon Arbuckle’s grandmother in two Garfield specials.

As the voice of The Little Mermaid’s Ursula, she sang the much-beloved “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and she carried the role through The Little Mermaid animated series on CBS, House of Mouse, theme park attractions, Kingdom Hearts video games, and most recently The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse episode “Keep On Rollin,’” released in 2020. She also voiced the character’s sister Morgana in 2000’s direct-to-video sequel The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.
She is survived by two daughters Kerry Karsian and Tara Karsian, and granddaughter Evan Karsian-McCormick. No memorial plans have been revealed at this time.
