IO Interactive’s Hitman trilogy is set to become a true “World of Assassination” when new changes come into effect on January 26.

From the release of the first game of the trilogy back in 2015, IO Interactive’s vision was to provide an ever-expanding game that evolved over time. With the rest of the trilogy released, each installment allowing owners of previous games to carry progress and maps over, that vision has now been realized, but it also means that there’s a lot of content spread out across many purchases, which isn’t exactly inviting to new players.

As such, what was attempted with Hitman Trilogy will become a lot easier to manage with World of Assassination. The changes that IO Interactive will implement include a change of name for Hitman 3 that makes it the default place for all Hitman content. The upgrade to World of Assassination is free for all owners of Hitman 3, and will automatically unlock all maps from Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 (excluding the expansion content from the second game, which will be bundled with the third game’s expansions in the World of Assassination Deluxe Pack).

Within the announcement, IO Interactive state that these changes have been made with the new Freelancer mode in mind, where access to “all locations from across the World of Assassination is paramount to maximizing your enjoyment.” Freelancer is a new way to experience the World of Assassination, arriving the same day these changes are implemented. Freelancer will have players experiencing these familiar maps in new ways that change their strategy in accomplishing their goals.

Both Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 have already been removed from digital storefronts in preparation for these changes, though players who own them can still access them. For those who only have some of the expansion content rather than none or all, the in-game store will allow purchase of what you don’t own across an even split of the base price for the Deluxe Pack. That Deluxe Pack will cost $30, with World of Assassination being priced at $70.
