The Rings Of Power season 2 is almost here, and we are learning more about the upcoming season daily. When you think of The Lord Of The Rings, you may think of Hobbits. However, The Rings Of Power season 1 did not have Hobbits but had their ancestors called Harfoots. That’s not going to change for season 2 either. We will see the Harfoots again, but fans will also see a new type of hobbit-esque character called the stoors.

Harfoots, Poppy Proudfellow, and Nori Brandyfoot are exploring the desert region of Rhûn, located east of Middle Earth. Here the two Harfoots will meet their distant cousins called the stoors. They predate the hobbit-adjacent riverfolk and are not nomadic. They weren’t always like this says Tayna Moore, who plays Gundabel, the stoors community leader.

Since the stoors stay in one place, they can record their history and culture. This is also seen in the details of the sets and costumes, which helped the actors understand their characters.

Rhûn is a desert, and very different from a place like the Shire. The stoors call a canyon home, which serves as an oasis in the harsh desert. In the books, the stoors are known for loving water, and Gavi Signh Chera, who plays a stoor named Merimac, says how “it's interesting that their origins are an arid environment, a place where water is sacred. So if you travel and come across the river, and this is your history, it must seem like the ultimate oasis”.

The Rings Of Power season 2 releases on August 29th on Amazon Prime.
