Nintendo Announced 'The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom' Will Release Next Year

Nintendo held a 40-minute Nintendo Direct presentation today, being entirely about the Switch. While there was a lot of farming simulation and the briefest of mere mentions of Illumination’s Mario movie and Super Nintendo World, the presentation closed on its “just one more thing” (though without saying it verbatim this time") and delivered with a bang: The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has its own title and release date.
The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom will release on the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023. It didn’t give many plot details but, as expected, it looks beautiful, even if the game footage isn’t final. The title did raise eyebrows though, leading many to believe this was why Nintendo UK chose to forego live-streaming the presentation during the national period of mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Other highlights include Pikmin 4 being announced seven years after an IGN report of Shigeru Miyamoto confirming its existence and that it was “close to completion”. Licensed games such as SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake and Disney Speedstorm were also announced. The first three Mario Party games are coming to Nintendo Switch Online, the first two coming before the end of this year and the third in the next. Both Pokémon Stadium games and Goldeneye 007 will also be heading to Nintendo Switch Online.
