Nightdive Studios, a game development company, recently teased System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition screenshots.  The studio has quickly delivered more content, dropping a “First Look Trailer” to tease the plot and visuals!  The Enhanced Edition means the game is being updated to run better while maintaining that classic feel of the original sci-fi horror sim.

Hints of lore explaining the history of an AI with a god complex and the hacker that seemingly stopped her, and a brief announcement of a revolutionary spaceship launching 42 years after this are explained with matching visuals.  Shooting mechanics are shown as well, highlighting their smoothness and functionality against various enemies on the ship.  Check out the trailer below!

Keep in mind that this is a work in progress; images and content pulled from this trailer are subject to change as development progresses and the release draws closer. According to Nightdive Studios, “System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition was created with the goal of reverse engineering the original code to port SS2 to the KEX Engine and made available on next-generation consoles for the first time.”  The game itself will become more widely available to consumers, and the playability of various features will be improved.

System Shock 2 was first released in August 1999 and re-released in May 2013, making it more available.  The game can be played on Windows, Mac, and/or Linux OS.  The development of the Enhanced Edition was announced in 2019 during the anniversary of the original release.  An official release date has not been confirmed.  It will follow the same plot as the original edition, as it is not a total remake.

Last August, a total remake of System Shock 2 was announced.  Few details have followed thus far, such as Windows availability, and its fate will likely rest on the success of the latest upcoming release.
