Nicolas Cage Won't Return As Spider-Man Noir For 'Across The Spider-Verse'
It turns out that while Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse boasts 200 characters, it’s not going to include one of the main Spider-Man variants from Into the Spider-Verse. According to Nicolas Cage, Spider-Man Noir has not been brought back for the long-anticipated sequel.
He revealed this in an interview with ScreenRant promoting his film The Old Way. It’s not quite clear whether this also affects next year’s follow-up Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, as it’s known both films were worked on at the same time, but to what extent is unknown. He does express an interest in revisiting the character in the future.

In some ways this makes sense. If Miles (Shameik Moore) and Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) are at the film’s core, the other Spider-People to join them can be like changeable cogs in the main system of the machine for a working story. They can team up with different ones in every story. Peni and Spider-Ham’s involvement in these films haven’t been confirmed yet, and Peter B. (Jake Johnson) wasn’t confirmed until the first main trailer, as only Moore, Steinfeld, and Oscar Isaac (Spider-Man 2099) were the initially confirmed voices. Said trailer reveals demonstrably less dependence on Peter B. and divides the latter’s responsibilities by introducing Mayday, after all. Most DCAU Justice League stories did not focus on all seven members at once, and then being teamed outside of such parameters and instead with other heroes in Unlimited. Cage still does love his character, calling it an infusion of James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart into Spider-Man. While the film doesn’t quite have the obligation to explicitly explain Noir’s absence, maybe Noir is trapped in the Rubik’s Cube after it got charmed.
In addition, a new image has been released of Miles and Gwen, introducing her to his parents, in Miles’s hideout deck seen in the trailer.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released on June 2, 2023, while its follow-up Beyond The Spider-Verse will be released on March 29, 2024.
