Nick Offerman is known to many as an outdoorsman and probably not one to be seen sitting around and playing video games all day. However, recently he was on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about, amongst other things, his recent appearance on the critically acclaimed third episode of the newest cable darling, The Last Of Us, the topic of video games naturally came up. Offerman had quite an interesting response first since the last time he had played a game and what it was, Banjo-Kazooie.

As the game has been around for a while despite some calls to bring back the series in a remake, the game follows a bear named Banjo and his friend, a red bird named Kazooie, as they battle an evil witch named Gruntilda that was first released in 1998. Offerman isn’t wrong when it comes to how gamers behave when they are immersed in their favourite game. I am sure we have all been there trying to beat that game, and the only way to do it is to not leave your basement and invest in loads of snacks and energy drinks. And he was definitely not wrong about how games have improved in the last 25 years and how immersive environments in games now will lead to even more lengthy stays in the basement. Even the games developer, Rare, responded to the sudden interest in the series thanks to Offerman’s glowing endorsement by tweeting out:

Offerman admitting his closet love for the game Banjo-Kazooie continues a tradition of celebrities you wouldn’t think were such fans of video games like you or I. Some other celebrities you may not have known were big gamers, including Matthew Perry and his love for Fallout 3, who enjoyed the game so much he even voiced a character in Fallout: New Vegas. Zachary Levi is a big first-person shooter fan, like Call of Duty and Battlefield. Even James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, loved the Halo series and said that he could “happily lose countless hours playing a game with ’a big fat storyline.”
