New 'Star Wars' Movie With Daisy Ridley Loses Writer
The upcoming Star Wars project with Daisy Ridley just lost another writer. Steven Knight joined the project last year to replace Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Now, Knight has departed the project as well, but Lucasfilm confirmed they are in active talks with potential writers. Knight’s departure will likely push production back to mid-2025. However, the other upcoming untitled Star Wars projects remain set to be released on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027.
The Ridley-led film takes place after The Rise of Skywalker and will focus on Rey starting a new Jedi Academy. Ridley confirmed that she knew “bits and bobs” about the story, but the project will need another writer to fully flesh out the story. In a leaked video on Reddit, Ridley explained, “We’re waiting for imminent news I would say. I might have already seen something. There might be a date of when we’re, yeah, the next stages.” If this is true, then Lucasfilm is in good shape to start filming next year. While the cast will have to wait to start filming, the wait is coming to an end for Star Wars fans to dive back into the galaxy. A child-led intergalactic pirate adventure Skeleton Crew hits Disney+ on December 3, 2024.
