Jedi Council Road Trip! A new Star Wars novel will see the Jedi Council as it was one year before the events of The Phantom Menace heading out into the galaxy on a mission of peace. But that peace will be disrupted as certain parties take the opportunity to wipe out the council members in one decisive strike.

John Jackson Miller will be writing this new novel, with his last being the Rebels prequel A New Dawn in 2014. In talking to io9 about his new book, Miller said, “I’m delighted to return to the Star Wars universe for a story that’s jam-packed with adventures for the Councilors – and for Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan Kenobi, to boot. As the former says to the latter in The Phantom Menace: Be mindful of The Living Force.”

And indeed, that’s what this new novel is called. This is fitting since it’s about rediscovering who you are, with Qui-Gon being the one to set things into motion. “With some Councilors trying to see the future while others are reeling under the bureaucratic demands of an increasingly corrupt Republic, Qui-Gon challenges them to get out of the Council Chamber and rediscover the Jedi they used to be,” Miller stated. “Their response is a ‘road trip’ for all 12 Councilors, giving us our first in-depth adventures with many of them – and a look into a side of the galaxy that can’t be seen from their Temple on Coruscant.”

The Council members of this time include Yoda, Mace Windu, Plo Koon, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Saesee Tiin, Adi Gallia, Eeth Koth, Even Piell, Depa Billaba, Oppo Rancisis, Yaddle, and Yarael Poof, with all of them visible on the novel’s cover. As Miller notes himself, “Many of my Star Wars works have explored what it meant to be a Jedi alone, cut off from the Jedi Order.” So when given the opportunity to “develop a story for the Jedi Council … I knew exactly what I wanted to do.”

This seems like the perfect novel for those wanting to see the Jedi Council members get to some action as a collective group. They can do so when Star Wars: The Living Force releases on April 9, 2024.
