Robert Downey Jr. isn’t the only one returning to the MCU. Another fan-favorite, Sebastian Stan will reprise his role of Bucky Barnes in the upcoming Thunderbolts film, but the character looks a little different this time. During the San Diego Comic-Con, the filmmakers revealed that Bucky is now a Congressman explaining his gray suit in previous set photos. In a Marvel panel at the convention, Stan expressed his feelings on returning to the character, “I never expected to be back, certainly with this group, but it’s turned out to be an amazing journey for my character. We got him into a really fun place now and I think this is the right place to be. If you see the movie, we’re all a very odd bunch and he fits right in.”

On a more humorous note, Stan confirmed that in the film, Bucky uses the dishwasher to clean his vibranium arm. The actor explained, “One has to at some point make sure that things do get clean, and so that’s a very efficient way of doing it fast. He uses a lot less water too, a lot less water in the dishwasher.” In addition to Stan’s Buckey, the film will see Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko, and Julia Louis Dreyfus reprising their roles of Yelena, The Red Guardian, John Walker, Ghost, the Taskmaster, and Valentina, respectively. Lewis Pullman will join the cast as Sentry. Thunderbolts is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2025, and will mark the completion of the MCU’s Phase 5.
