New Player Joins The 'War Of The Bounty Hunters'
She is beauty. She is grace. No, we are not talking about Miss Congeniality here. We are talking about this bright, colorful, well-dressed lady who was somehow connected to Jabba the Hutt’s criminal organization. The canon War of the Bounty Hunters comic crossover event already introduced many new players in this interesting turn of events where the carbonite-frozen Han Solo was taken from Boba Fett on his way to Jabba the Hutt after the events of The Empire Strikes Back. As a bounty was put on Boba Fett for his failure to deliver more quickly, we were reintroduced to familiar faces in the business like Dengar, IG-88, 4-LOM, Zuckuss, and Bossk. In the one-shot comic issue War of the Bounty Hunters - Jabba the Hutt, we were introduced to a new bounty hunter: Deva Lompop.
When we were first introduced to this green-skinned woman, Deva Lompop was relaxing in her beautiful home with clear pools and well-kept plants. She was wearing a rich fashionable dark blue robe, sipping on a beverage from her mug. Then we were treated to a flashback where this well-dressed woman was seen dining next to Jabba the Hutt. Boba Fett was hanging around close by. Then Jabba the Hutt handed down a job to Lompop and Boba Fett, the latter of whom complained that he could handle the business himself. Lompop explained that she was an information broker, and did not want to take the job. However, after Jabba’s reminded her of her debt to him, she said,
“Good thing I brought my hunting gear.”

We were then treated to a stunning figure in a red punkish outfit. Her colorful feathered hair formed a very unique mohawk. You knew she meant business. She was dangerous. She was not someone you would want to cross.
According to the article on the official Star Wars website, Deva Lompop's a Shani, a sentient species of feathered reptilians who possessed long lifespans. The Hutts considered the Shani to be the original bounty hunters of the galaxy.
In discussing her character concept, writer Justina Ireland told StarWars.com,
“Deva was the product of my absolute love of feathered lizards and badass women.”
Artist Iban Coello successfully breathed life into that description, creating a green skinned woman with colorful feathered hair in a punk outfit. Unlike the punk fashion of our world, her outfit was quite functional with rows of blades encircling her legs, and hidden blades in strategic reach of her hands.
It also appeared that she had been active in the underworld for a very long time. As writer Justina Ireland told Star Wars.com,
“There is definitely something awesome about getting a chance to bring a High Republic character to the War of the Bounty Hunters, and for High Republic fans they should watch for Deva in upcoming works.”
Deva Lompop was no ordinary bounty hunter if she had been active for so long. We thought Boba Fett was legendary. Only a bounty hunter of a certain caliber could affectionately call him “pup” with no consequences. While Boba Fett tended to approach a problem head on, using wit and trickery if necessary to overwhelm his target with firepower, Lompop was not afraid to take a more subtle approach as part of her arsenal. Using her charisma, fashionable outfits, and unique looks, she would charm information from her target. We could see this helping her in her other line of work as an information broker. Do not underestimate her though, because she could easily rip your head off (quite literally). This combination of brain and brawn made her a dangerous bounty hunter indeed. You would not want to be on the side opposite of hers.
Although her appearance in this comic issue was brief, this would not be the last time we see her. As mentioned before, Lompop had been active since the time of the High Republic. With the High Republic multimedia project in full swing through novels, and comic series, it'd be a matter of time before the rainbow feathered hair Deva Lompop's entrance on the scene. With her past history with the “pup” Boba Fett, perhaps she could make a live-action appearance in The Book of Boba Fett too.
