New Disney+ Price Plans Revealed with Ad-Free Tier
It all ‘ads’ up for Disney+. Disney had its third-quarter earnings call on Wednesday, August 10, following up on its March announcement of an ad-supported tier for Disney+. They announced its release date, price, and how it affects its other pricing plans and bundles.
The ad-supported tier of Disney+ will launch on December 8 and will cost $7.99 per month, which is the current price of Disney+ in all its ad-free glory. The ad-free Disney+ will be increasing in price to $10.99 per month. Most were expecting a lower price point for the ad-supported tier compared to the current ad-free service. The two tiers will be known as Disney+ Basic and Disney+ Premium respectively.

On top of that, Hulu’s prices will increase from $6.99 to $7.99 per month on its ad-supported tier and from $12.99 to $14.99 per month on its ad-free tier. This pricing begins on October 10. The Disney Bundle comprised of ad-supported Hulu, Disney+ (Premium), and ESPN+ increases to $14.99 from $13.99 per month, while the version of the bundle that includes ad-free Hulu remains at $19.99 per month. There is also a new bundle of Disney+ and ad-supported Hulu for $9.99. CNN believes that these new pricing plans, with an emphasis on bundles, are going to be the new thing in the streaming arena.
Disney also revealed that it had surpassed Netflix in total subscribers across its three streaming platforms. The gap had narrowed considerably over the fiscal year, with Netflix losing over 1.2 million subscribers during that time. The current numbers have Disney’s platforms at 221 million subscribers while Netflix has 220.6 million.
