New Clips Arise From 'Hunger Games' Prequel
As the release date forThe Hunger Games prequel film, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, draws near, new clips from the film have been released that tease out key scenes and characters from the novel, written by Suzanne Collins. The novel, which is set a little over six decades before the events featured in The Hunger Games series, features the journey of Coriolanus Snow, portrayed in this film by Tom Blyth, the young man who would later grow up to become the tyrant of Panem and chief nemesis of Katniss Everdeen, President Snow. According to the official synopsis:
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.

The first clip here introduces one of the main characters, Lucy Gray Baird, portrayed by Rachel Zegler, who is seen exacting some reptilian revenge against a personal rival during the Hunger Games’ annual “Reaping” ceremony in District 12.
The next clip here features Dr. Volumnia Gaul, portrayed by Viola Davis, introducing the creator of the Hunger Games, Casca “Cas” Highbottom, portrayed by Peter Dinklage, to the students in a school. Davis’ unhinged performance in the clip seems somewhat reminiscent of Elizabeth Banks as the flamboyant Effie Trinket in the original Hunger Games films.
The final clip features Snow strategizing with Tigris Snow, portrayed by Hunter Schaefer.
The film also stars Josh Andres Rivera (Sejanus Plinth) and Jason Schwartzman (Lucretius "Lucky" Flickerman). The film is due to be released in theaters on November 17th.
