Neve Campbell Was Sad To leave 'Scream 6' But She Felt Undervalued
In early June 2022, Neve Campbell released a statement explaining her “very difficult decision” to not return for the Scream franchise’s sixth installment.
"Sadly I won't be making the next Scream film. As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream," she said. "I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. "It's been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You've always been so incredibly supportive to me. I'm forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years," Campbell adds.

Debuting in 1996, Scream and its 4 sequels have grossed over $740 million, making it one of the highest-grossing horror franchises of all time. Campbell played the role of main heroine Sydney Prescott throughout the first five movies.
Neve said that the decision to not come back was negotiation-related, and did not feel that her salary was reflective of the value that she brought to the franchise over the past 25 years. She went on to say that she believed that if she were in the same position as a man, she would have received an offer that would reflect a 25-year, 5-film blockbuster horror movie franchise. However, Campbell did say that she is still very open to returning to the franchise if the amount offered would be right.
Neve is currently starring in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, and Peacock’s upcoming Twisted Metal with Avengers alum Anthony Mackie.
