The premiere of Wednesday came swinging like the blade of a guillotine, unstoppable and cutting through any and all expectations with ease.  From the already-established Addams Family fandom to new fans alike, the show has been a success. Jenna Ortega’s compelling performance of the titular icon honored the past renditions of the character while setting hers particularly apart. The show was so sharp it cut through quite the record set by another Netflix original.

Within one week of the premier, a total of 341.2 million hours of the show were watched. With that impressive number, Netflix has confirmed that “the series now holds the record for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language TV series on Netflix.” This ousts Stranger Things, which kicked up its own storm upon release.

Not only that, but Wednesday managed to tie with Stranger Things for being #1 in 83 countries.  The official Twitter account for the series even responded to this exciting news. Check out the morosely humorous tweet below!

Wednesday follows the beloved character as she navigates a new high school, balancing psychic ability practice, murder mystery solving, and possibly a bit of torture; every girl’s dream, right? All eight episodes are available to stream on Netflix. No word has come yet regarding a season 2.
