Season 3 of The Witcher will premiere in the summer of 2023, and Season 4, with Liam Hemsworth taking over as Geralt of Rivia, is a few more years out. To bridge the time until the white-haired and (sometimes) yellow-eyed sword wielder returns, Netflix will release the mini-series The Witcher: Blood Origin on December 25, and a new trailer for the show was just released.

Teased in a post-credit scene of the Season 2 finale of The Witcher, the events of Blood Origin take place 1,200 years before those of the main series when the worlds (or rather dimensions) of elves, men, and monsters were still separated. Then, a cosmic event called the Conjunction of the Spheres happened, merging these worlds into the continent from the main series. Men quickly began to explore this new world, raging war on the elves and destroying their homes, often with the help of their newly gained power of magic. As monsters suddenly roamed the continent, men were forced to create the Witchers to fight them by employing cruel and brutal rituals to turn young children into ruthless hunters.

The Witcher: Blood Origin, created by Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, and stars Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, Minnie Driver, and Lenny Henry, among others, will finally tell the events of the Conjunction of the Spheres and the creation of the first Witcher, which were only hinted at in the main series.

All four episodes of the mini-series premiere on December 25 exclusively on Netflix.
