Netflix have cancelled adult science-fiction animated sitcom Inside Job, having previously renewed the series for a second season.

Series creator Shion Takeuchi took to Twitter to confirm the news and give some words of her own about the cancellation. Saying that these characters have become real people to her over the years of developing the series, she expressed that she is “devastated not to be able to watch them grow up.”

Thanking everyone who had watched the show, Takeuchi says that, “Even though I’m sad, it helps to know that there’s people out there who cared just as much about these characters as me.”

A comedy series set in a world where conspiracy theories are real, the series followed those who worked for American shadow government organisation Cognito, Inc. as they struggled through life and relationships within both their home and workplace. Critics have been favourable to the show, enjoying the absurdity with which it presents conspiracy theories while embracing how it portrays relationships within the workplace.

Inside Job is but one of a few series that Netflix has cancelled in recent times, with beloved series 1899 having been cancelled after its first season, too. Despite such cancellations, Netflix have renewed other series for a second season, including breakout hits Wednesday and The Sandman.
