As cable companies continue to see a loss in subscribers and as television and streaming manufacturers such as Samsung and Roku develop free, ad-supported television (FAST) apps readily available to their consumers, NBCUniversal announced the company plans to debut close to 30 new FAST channels on Amazon Freevee and Xumo Play. Network fans can look forward to enjoying many of NBC’s libraries at no charge. Even consumers without access to Amazon Freevee can enjoy the new channels via the antennas on their television sets.

Programming will include Top Chef, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and Saturday Night Live. Also, the new channels will feature Telemundo programs, such as Lo Mejor de Telemundo, Historias de Amor, and Telemundo al Día. Sitcoms, action films, and westerns will be included, such as Murder, She Wrote, Saved by the Bell, and Little House on the Prairie. The development of FAST apps is becoming a billion-dollar industry for entertainment companies looking to offset production costs for streaming content with advertising revenue. NBCUniversal released its first streaming platform Peacock in 2020 to compete with Netflix and MAX.

Matt Schnaars, President of NBCUniversal Content Distribution, spoke with Deadline on this announcement saying, “NBCUniversal is in the enviable position of owning a vast array of iconic shows that are not part of our broadcast and cable networks to curate a valuable portfolio of FAST channels…These channels, with content from some of the most recognizable brands in television, will find an immediate audience in the growing FAST ecosystem and create value for NBCUniversal, our distribution partners, and our advertisers.”
