More New Characters Teased For 'The Rings Of Power' Season 2
A new photo leaked from The Rings of Power set has revealed that a major player from The Lord of the Rings Appendices will be making his debut on screen. Círdan the Shipwright was one of the last elves to leave Middle Earth and a known bearer of one of the three elven rings. In The Silmarillion, Cirdan receives Narya (The Ring of Fire) from Ereinion Gil-galad (Played by Mark Ferguson in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) who also wore Elrond’s ring, Vilya for a time. Cirdan eventually also passes his ring onto Gandalf.
The Crown’s Ben Daniels has been cast in the role and will no doubt bring gravitas to the statesman elf.
“It was exciting, selfishly, to be a part of that character’s introduction, because he’s such an amazing character.” Robert Aramayo (Elrond) told news media. “Where Peter Jackson's movie trilogy left him quite literally lurking in the background, the Prime Video series' continuing adventures in the Second Age will bring with it a more fleshed-out role for Círdan, one that includes acting as mentor to Elrond.”

That’s not the only major casting update. A new wizard will be entering the fray, played by Ciarán Hinds, who is no stranger to magical characters. Harry Potter fans should spot Dumbledore’s brother, but that’s not the only fandom he’s been in. Hinds is the voice of Steppenwolf from Marvel’s Justice League and Mance Ryder from Game of Thrones. He should be a strong presence as the latest Istar to land on Middle Earth. It is suspected he is there to hunt down the unknown stranger who landed via comet in season one, but there is no confirmation of a character name for either of these two parts.
