Thanks To ‘The Mandalorian,’ Disney Stocks Hit All Time High After Investor Day 2020
Movies and TV shows. These are the things that give us some comfort whenever we need a break from it all. Recently, the statuses of many productions have been in question thanks to the pandemic. However, the entertainment giant that is Disney has been showing that it is not stopping, despite how the pandemic has affected the entertainment industry.
Last Thursday, the Disney investors call revealed a lot of content coming over the next few years. We got the usual reassurance of more Marvel and Pixar content, but, more surprisingly, it was revealed that we would be getting about ten new Star Wars projects in the form of TV shows and movies, some newly revealed and some being updates with new details: A Droid Story, The Acolyte, Ahsoka, Andor, The Bad Batch, Lando, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Rangers of the New Republic, Rogue Squadron, and Visions. Included in the announcement was a reminder that The Mandalorian would be getting a third season on Disney+. All of this news sent shockwaves through the internet, stirring up a lot of hype.
Unsurprisingly, Disney shares jumped 13% on Friday, which is certainly a new all time high. As a result, the stock is now up more than 20% this year. In a year that has been really rough, that is nothing to shrug off. Investors see the value in streaming now, particularly Disney+. And really, it is a smart move for them to bet on it. People have been iffy about the Star Wars franchise over the last few years, but fans are more confident now thanks to The Mandalorian. It all starts with that show. It is such a crowd pleaser of a show, beloved more universally than any of the recent films under Disney. Lucasfilm and Disney have proved that they can make great live-action TV shows. As such, people have been saying, "More please," and we are getting a lot more of that. It is all thanks to a TV show about a bounty hunter and a cute little child who has won the hearts of many people around the world.
It is very reassuring that Disney has promised all of this new content. Given the current circumstances, streaming entertainment from home is the comfort that people seek. You can bet your bottom dollar that many people will be streaming the upcoming content on Disney+. With Disney also having Fox's entertainment assets and a hand in Hulu, they are working on too many things to count at a glance. There is sure to be no shortage of entertainment on people's screens in the near future. As rough as this year has been, what little entertainment we did get on Disney+ has been pretty good, and that trend does not appear to be dropping off any time soon. So mark your calendars whenever the release dates for whatever you are excited to see are confirmed, and get ready to sit back and treat yourself to some nice and comforting entertainment.
