Ming Na-Wen Compares 'Book Of Boba Fett' To 'The Godfather' In Terms Of Style
There have been plenty of movies, games, and series over the years when it pertains to Star Wars. The latest is The Book of Boba Fett and it is sure to have fans on the edge of their seats. Perhaps even more so now that Fennec Shand actress, Ming Na-Wen, has called the series "the Star Wars version of The Godfather."
The series closes out 2021 for Disney, with a premiere set for December 29th. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this one after it was teased at the very end of The Mandalorian Season 2. It is typical of Disney to release a new season of The Mandalorian around this time of year, so for now, The Book of Boba Fett will have to whet fan's appetite for more Star Wars content.

Wen does elaborate a bit further on the comments she made about the show, "more like a take on gangster movies," before describing the bond between Shand and Fett. She said "I feel like they are bonded because both of them had near-death experiences. They're both bounty hunters, and they do adhere to a certain level of respect and honor. He saved her, and there's a debt to be paid, and bounty hunters honor that debt."
It has been noted in the past that the show will focus on Boba and Fennec and their take over of the Hutt Cartel which has now been left with a vacancy after the events of Return of the Jedi. It's also not the first time Star Wars has drawn comparison to classic movies. The first two seasons of The Mandalorian have been compared to classic Western movies such as The Magnificent Seven and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Series co-creator Jon Favreau has even used the mafia-style story when discussing the new series, saying;
"Jabba was clearly a very strong and imposing leader, who people were very scared of, and who seemed to rule with an iron fist. You pull somebody like that out of the ecosystem of Tatooine – and Hutt Space in general – and you have the opportunity that’s ripe in the gangster genre."
With only a 7 episode first season, the show should waste no time diving deep into the story. Starring Temeura Morrison and Ming Na-Wen, the story should pick up right where it left off or slightly thereafter in Mandalorian Season 2. It's a refreshing change of story direction for Star Wars as this show will focus more on the criminal underworld and less of the Jedi vs Sith stuff. It will be intriguing to see how it plays out alongside other upcoming shows such as Kenobi and Ahsoka. Morrison himself has even teased a few shocking cameos for the first season that should have fans talking for days afterwards. People can only speculate for now what that may mean for the series and the universe as a whole. Anything is possible these days as these shows have begun to fill in the gap years in between the movies. This series could spawn an entire new set of potential stories moving forward as well.
Disney has gift wrapped a very special after-Christmas launch for the show, which will give families even more time to bond throughout the holidays. It seems like Boba's return in The Mandalorian was only a tease of what is to come and a very cool way to introduce him back into the Star Wars mix. He's a beloved character and now fans have a chance to see the story come full circle for a character who seemed to meet a very grisly demise after such a small amount of screen time.
