Sometimes you have to put things off to get them just right.

It’s something more gamers are becoming accustomed to enduring, given the sad state of launches some of their favorite franchises have experienced in recent years. Rather than get an unfinished game that needs constant patches upon release, they seem to be willing to wait a bit longer for a more finished product.

That now seems to be the case with the new addition to the long-running Fable franchise. Microsoft revealed through Craig Duncan on the Xbox Podcast that Fable would be delayed to 2026. They originally announced a 2025 release date, but they are pushing it back, which he says is best for the game and the team.

Duncan talks glowingly about the team at Playground, the new development team behind the game, and noted developers of the critically acclaimed Forza Horizon series, which is known for absolutely stunning visuals. Duncan says fans can expect much the same quality in bringing Albion to life.

To somewhat sate the hunger for the game, Microsoft released about 50 seconds of new pre-alpha-build gameplay. Duncan wasn’t kidding when he mentioned visual quality. While mostly travel- or combat-oriented, the video showed off horseback riding, one- and two-handed combat, and, in true British-comedy-inspired style that is characteristic of Albion, the main character fights off a giant chicken.

There was no hard release date for the updated news, but that will likely become clearer as the year rolls on.
