Michelle Yeoh Returns To Starfleet In Newly Announced 'Star Trek' Movie About Section 31

Paramount’s long-rumored Star Trek: Section 31 is happening. When it was first announced in 2019, the project was slated as a spinoff series from Star Trek: Discovery. However, it has now been confirmed to be a feature film. Michelle Yeoh, who has just won the Academy for Best Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, will reprise her role as Philippa Georgiou.
Yeoh first joined the Star Trek franchise in 2017 with the premiere of Star Trek: Discovery. She played Captain Philippa Georgiou of the starship Shenzhou, who was killed. She then returned as the Mirror Universe’s Georgiou doppelganger, Emperor Georgiou. After leaving the Mirror Universe, Georgiou joined the ranks of Starfleet’s black ops organization, Section 31.

Star Trek: Discovery creator and showrunner Alex Kurtzman stated that Yeoh was interested in a Section 31 spinoff series even before Discovery first aired. When Paramount made the announcement, Yeoh was “beyond thrilled” to return to the Star Trek universe:
“Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of Star Trek launched.”
Section 31 has always been shrouded in secrecy, and this movie is no different. Any information about the story, at this point, is mere speculation.
Production for the movie is set to begin later this year. There is no confirmed release date as of right now, but the movie will likely debut in 2024.
