The Wheel of Time turns and seasons come and go. Season two of The Wheel of Time on Prime Video comes out this summer after a year and a half, avoiding the Writer Strike (though season three is in production and will likely be affected), and we’re learning more and more about who and what to expect in the upcoming season.

Today, The Nerdist revealed that Meera Syal, who was cast back in 2021 for a recurring role, will play none other than one of the most prominent figures in the books, and fan favorite Aes Sedai, Verin Mathwin. Syal has an extensive career with stints in television and film. She’s appeared in Paddington 2, The Sandman, and even Doctor Strange. Verin is an important character in the books, so she’s likely to be a frequently appearing character in the coming seasons, especially since she accompanies Rand several times on his travels.

RELATED:

Verin is an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah. The Brown Ajah are the scholars of the White Tower. They may not be the most powerful of the Aes Sedai, but they’re certainly among the most knowledgable. She is described as short and always has a book with her, much like Loial, the Ogier. Verin presents herself like her sisters in the Brown AJah, sometimes scatterbrained and bookish given their Ajah’s affinity for research, she’s putting on a front. Verin is intricately involved in Moiraine’s quest to find the Dragon Reborn and she puts on an act to mask her secretive work for Moiraine. The politics of the White Tower are deep and intertwined, but the Browns are usually left out. Verin’s work with Moiraine has her ear to what goes on in the Tower, so expect to see her deeply involved in what is going on.

Season one was a relative success, enjoying decent reviews. It’s available in its entirety on Prime Video.
