Max Has Cancelled 'Warrior' After Three Seasons But Could Be Picked Up By Netflix For Future Seasons
Season three of Warrior ended with fans on the edge of their seats, leaving cliffhangers in its wake. Unfortunately, Max has canceled the series, not moving forward with a fourth season; at the time of writing this article, a reason has not been specified. However, there is hope for a future: it will be added to Netflix’s 2024 catalog, possibly hitting the platform in February. Should Warrior perform well, future seasons could be ordered.
In a statement to Deadline, the series showrunner Jonathan Tropper commented on the show itself, explaining, “Warrior is a show that simply refuses to die. Through platform and regime changes, the writers, producers, cast, crew, and our stunt team continued to make something powerful, relevant, and wildly unique.” He continued, “And now, thanks to Netflix, we’ve been given yet another lease on life, and I’m thrilled for everyone involved that millions more viewers around the world will discover it.”

Executive producer Shannon Lee, Bruce Lee’s daughter, also gave a statement regarding the current state of the show:
“If anything can be said about Warrior, with Bruce Lee in our corner, our indomitable spirit is REAL! And so, my wish is that the huge global Netflix audience LOVES Warrior and from that Love more goodness flows – in the form of greater recognition for our talented cast and crew who deserve all the things, in the form of passionate fandom for this relevant kick ass show and, if I dare to dream, in the form of an opportunity to continue our story for our amazing fans who, thanks to Netflix, will have grown in number and enthusiasm!”
Warrior is based on a concept martial artist and Hollywood icon Bruce Lee had developed. Set in the 19th century during the Tong Wars, martial artist prodigy Ah Sahm immigrated from China to San Francisco to search for his sister. In the process, he becomes a hatchet man, a person to carry out unpleasant or violent tasks, for one of San Francisco’s most powerful tongs. It first started at Cinemax, with season one airing in 2019 and season two in 2020. Following that platform’s cancellation of the series, HBO Max (now Max) picked it up for a third; the third season aired from July to August of 2023.
