Marvel Studios Released The Official Trailer For 'Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever’ During Their SDCC Panel

The title card for "Wakanda Forever" featuring silver letters on a black background

This weekend, during the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic Con, a whole bunch of content was announced for the MCU. One of the announcements was that the upcoming show, She-Hulk, on Disney+ and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, would be the two projects to close out Phase 4. Speaking of Black Panther, the trailer for the new film titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was just released, and it looks so good.

The trailer starts with Nakia looking out into the ocean. It then fades and we see glimpses of the Dora Milaje and eventually Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett). The song playing in the background is very fitting for this movie, with lines like “good friends we have, and good friends we’ve lost along the way” and “you can’t forget your past”. We also see what looks to be a water tribe, with them riding on a whale. There's also a military ship that looks like it has taken people hostage. We finally get to see Shuri again, and she meets with Riri Williams (Ironheart) in her lab. Then it switches and we see the new character, Namor, emerging out of the water. It switches to Queen Ramonda, who says “her entire family is gone” and then changes to a mural of the late Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed T’Challa in the MCU. Then after, there’s a fight scene with previous characters such as M’Baku and the Dora Milaje fighting new threats . Finally, the last scene is the Black Panther extending their claws.

After the unexpected passing of Chadwick Boseman, many people were unsure what would happen to the Black Panther sequel. Disney assured everyone however, that the role would not be recast. That means the role is someone we already know, but who? The three top contenders are Shuri, M’Baku, and Nakia. Of course there could always be a wildcard that comes in, but if Disney said they wouldn’t recast the role, then I think it would be someone we already know. I can’t wait to see who will take on the mantle of the Black Panther.

I loved the first Black Panther, and was crushed when Chadwick Boseman died so unexpectedly. This trailer has me hyped for the next movie, and I am excited to see where we go in the next part of this story.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever releases in theaters on November 11, 2022.
