After finding its writer for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in Jeff Loveness, it seems that Marvel Studios is now considering Michael Waldron to pen its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. According to Deadline, meetings for the job took place last month, and Waldron was the one that stood out from the rest of the writers, which, if we take a closer look at his profile, might not be a coincidence.

Waldron is no stranger to Kevin Feige, and several reasons are in his favor as a candidate for this role. First, Waldron has already contributed to Marvel Studios’ productions in the past, first as executive producer and showrunner for the Loki series and then as head writer for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. As a result, both productions were big hits, one received a second season, announced right at the end of its first, and the other has grossed more than $950 million at the worldwide box office. In addition, after working on Doctor Strange 2, a new deal was made between Disney and Waldron, who was tapped to write Feige’s secret Star Wars movie, creating a stronger bond between the producer and the writer.

While we have no information regarding the plot of the next two Avengers movies, one thing is sure, both films will deal with the concepts of the multiverse and of variants. In addition, Loveness and Waldron have something in common that can benefit those stories: they both have worked on several episodes of the Rick and Morty animated series, which is a show that deals with time travel and interdimensional traveling. In other words, one, as well as the other, understand the intricacies of telling a story using such complex concepts.

Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars will release on November 7, 2025.
