Marvel Released A New Animated Explainer For 'Secret Invasion’

To prepare fans for the upcoming Disney+ series, Secret Invasion, Marvel released an animated short summarizing the comic event. The story begins with hypnotized cows. Now, these cows weren't actually cows. They were a race of shapeshifting beings known as Skrulls.
During an early Skrull invasion on earth, the species pretended to be the Fantastic Four, angering the real Reed Richards. In response, he hypnotized the Skrulls into believing they were cows. Their shapeshifting abilities completed the image by turning them into cows. This angered the Skrull princess Veranke. While the Skrulls were busy fighting with the Kree, an alien race hostile to their kind, Tony Stark created the Illuminati to protect Earth from alien invasions. Their homeworld was eventually consumed by Galactus, so the Princess looked to conquer Earth.

Back on Earth, Tony became the leader of SHIELD and the Avengers. Spider-Woman revealed to Tony that Elektra had been replaced by a Skrull, leading Tony to seek the help of Reed Richards and Hank Pym. Tony is alerted that a Skrull ship arrived in the Savage land and took off to help. Meanwhile, Pym revealed his Skrull identity and turned Reed into goop.

When Tony arrived in the Savage Land, Luke Cage showed up with an identical group of Avengers. All the members had appearances, mannerisms, and memories of the real Avengers, further complicating the situation. While Tony and Luke were at a loss, Skrulls disguised as superheroes began attacking the Baxter Building and Thunderbolts Mountain. A Skrull Jarvis uploaded a virus that disabled the Helicarrier and Tony’s suit, forcing him to rebuild it in an abandoned lab. At that moment, Spider-Woman exposes herself as the Skrull Princess Veranke. She tells Tony that he is a Skrull too, which causes him a moment of confusion and doubt. In the meantime, the Skrulls continued to attack the planet and transformed into celebrity heroes to boost the Skrull Empire.
Back in the Savage Land, Tony realized he is not a Skrull and fixes his suit. Reed shows up with a gadget that reveals the Skrulls among them. On Earth, Nick Fury led a massive team of heroes to fight against the Skrulls. The final blow to the invasion came from Norman Osborn who shot Veranke with a well-aimed blast. The government promptly replaced Tony with Norman and made him head of SHIELD. He used his newfound power to change SHIELD to HAMMER and hired villains in secret, but that’s a different story.
