From directing and producing the short film Broken Record (1994) to working on great successes released on both the big and the small screen, such as Night at the Museum (2006 - 2014), Stranger Things (2016 – 2022), and Free Guy (2022), Shawn Levy has become one of the most productive and successful filmmakers in the movie industry.

In a recent interview with Collider to promote his most recent project, Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again, Levy took a look back on his career and shared his excitement about how it led him to work on a Star Wars project. "If you had told me back when I was directing Big Fat Liar that someday I'd be working on the biggest TV show in the world and directing Marvel followed by Star Wars, I would've told you "You're fucking nuts." But it is so thrilling. And it is the kind of big canvas storytelling that I've always dreamed of doing,” said Levy to Collider’s Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub.

For Levy, when building a project, there is nothing more important than creating a world in which you can find comedy and heart. It’s a gripping mixture that is showcased in Free Guy and The Adam Project and which seems to have become the filmmaker’s trademark. Well, that and working with Ryan Reynolds.

His passion for the Star Wars franchise, alongside his unique assets, is what Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recognized as a real potential. Thus Levy understands how lucky he is to have been given this rare opportunity: “I have this golden ticket into a galaxy far away, and I'm going to devote myself to developing a screenplay that gives me the privilege of making this movie. I don't attach to things because it looks good in a trade announcement. I attach to things that I intend to make. And you better believe I'm not going to squander this juiciest of opportunities.”

Of course, it will be a long time until we see Levy’s Star Wars story on screen since, as for now, he’s got his hands full with Deadpool 3 and the final season of Stranger Things.

Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again is available on Disney+ now.
