Marvel Announces A New 'Fantastic Four' Comic Series Ahead Of The Film

The Fantastic Four will be returning to their roots before they return to the big screen. The announcement of a 2024 Fantastic Four film at San Diego Comic-Con generated a lot of hype in the hopes that the upcoming movie would at least be better than any of the recent movie adaptions (which most fans would say isn’t very hard). Although the Fantastic Four have technically appeared in the MCU, it was only in an alternate universe, and only Reed Richards has appeared (although, there’s nothing to stop us from having the headcanon that Sue’s been there the whole time).

The main history behind Marvel’s first family, however, is in the comics that started in 1961 and was the first property to launch Marvel from a small company to a household name. They will now have the chance to return to their roots in a recently announced plan to have a comic run leading into their 2024 movie.

Marvel has announced that Ryan North, known for his work on The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, will be writing the series, with art being done by Iban Coello, who did work on the Venom series. The first comic, set for release in November, will focus on The Thing (Ben Grimm) and his wife Alicia. This will be followed by an issue focusing on Ben’s best friend and series protagonist Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards) and his Wife The Invisible Woman (Sue Storm). The third issue will focus on Sue’s brother The Human Torch (Johnny Storm), giving each character some time to shine individually before bringing them all back together.

Ryan North described the stories as ‘smaller’ and ‘self-contained’, while also stressing the importance of making them original and not retreading anything done before.
