For those who follow Mark Hamill on social media (and there is no reason you shouldn't, as the man is a delight), his political opinions on US and international affairs should come as no surprise. Ever since Vladimir Putin started his "special operation" nearly 12 months ago, he has been a strong proponent of the Ukrainian army.

In September of last year, he became an ambassador for "Army of Drones", a project set up by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, and the fundraising platform United24. As the name suggests "Army of Drones" deals with the procurement and the maintenance of drones, as well as with the training of the respective personnel, to monitor the frontlines and the border.

“Drones are so vital in this conflict. They are the eyes in the sky. They protect the border, they monitor,” Hamill said.

To help the cause, the actor has now agreed to sell Star Wars posters with his signature: “We decided to sign Star Wars posters, a limited amount. For real hardcore collectors — especially those that have disposable income — you can get way more money … than you would imagine.”

Though Hamill has participated in charity projects before, like UNICEF's "Force for Change" campaign around the time of the release of The Force Awakens, this is the first time since 2017 that he will sell his autograph: "It’s just not something I do", he explained, but decided to take the Jedi approach of doing the "right thing for the good of everyone, rather than being all about self-interest" in this case.

Although the term "war" applies to the galaxy far, far away, and our own world, the actor is cautious comparing Star Wars to the fighting in Eastern Europe: "One is really a fairy tale for children, originally that’s what Star Wars was. And the reality, the stark reality of what’s going on in Ukraine, is harrowing.”

The exact amount of posters that will go on sale and the procedure of how fans will be able to acquire them have not been finally decided, but Hamill's idea is "having hundreds and thousands of people enter [a competition or auction], that’s smart."  So far, "Army of Drones" which is also supported by the band Imagine Dragons or singer/actress Barbara Streisand has raised more than €252 Mio. ($236 Mio.) and this amount will likely rise quite a bit once Mark Hamill's signed Star Wars posters will become available.

The autographs will go on sale any day now, so stay tuned for more information.
