Mark Dodson, Famous Voice Actor Best Known For 'Gremlins' and 'Star Wars' Passes Away At 64
Mark Dodson, a Star Wars and horror icon, passed away on March 2, 2024. The voice actor frequently attended conventions during the span of his career; according to his daughter, he passed away in Evansville, Indiana, while attending the 2024 Evansville HorrorCon. His cause of death is reportedly a heart attack. He was 64 years old.
Dodson was born on February 1, 1960, in St. Louis, Missouri. His career really kicked off in 1983 with his role in Star Wars: Episode IV - Return of the Jedi. While the actor intended to audition for Admiral Ackbar, his role ended up being very different. Dodson was the voice behind Salacious B. Crumb, the iconic Kowakian monkey-lizard who resided in Jabba the Hutt’s palace. That isn’t the only Star Wars role the actor was involved with; he was also credited for Ewoks: The Battle for Endor.

Dodson gave the Gremlins a voice in both the 1984 and 1990 films. Other credits include Aegeus in Kaptara (2013), the narrator for This Halloween Night (2016), and Henchmoles in an episode of Darkwing Duck (1991). This actor wasn’t limited to TV and film; he dabbled in video game characters as well. Some of his most noteworthy credits include Nathan Arch and The Lost Ones in Bendy and the Dark Revival (2022), Lucifer in Lucius III (2018), voices in Star Trek Online (2010), and Overseer in Neon Chrome (2016). He even did several voices for the Nancy Drew PC games!
