The world is full of wonderous things such as love, death, and of course, robots.

In March of 2019, the world of animated entertainment was turned upside-down by the groundbreaking series that pushed the boundaries of animation and storytelling. The series Love, Death & Robots was released on Netflix with the goal of absolute legend status. It's safe to say that goal has been achieved. For two seasons, the beautifully chaotic series took its viewers on adventure after adventure flying us through ancient worlds, sci-fi realities, and mind-bending quests. However, before we get to the real story, just a quick reminder that this show is NOT for the faint of heart as it's one of the goriest and most brutal series in animated history, marked in Netflix's NSFW Category.

On May 9th, 2022, news broke that the amazing adventures would continue with the third season adding nine more action-packed and, no doubt, supernatural storylines. A few days after the trailer release, I was invited to sit in on an official sneak preview of the third volume of this iconic series. So, before the new installment of Love, Death & Robots drops on Netflix on May 20th, some serious questions need answering.

One of the most popular episodes from the first season was the first episode, titled 'Three Robots.' This 11-minute short story introduces three very different robots, all designed for their own unique purpose. This band of bots sets out to explore a post-apocalyptic Earth in hopes of studying the ancient humans more closely. The question everyone is asking, though, will the trio return for volume three?

The answer is yes. The Three Robots will return for yet another dark-humor adventure. This time the bots find themselves exploring what seems to be humanity's last hope; outposts spread across the world, all hoping to fend off whatever it was that eventually wiped them out. And that's just the first episode. Of course, reprising their roles, Josh Brener, Gary Anthony Williams, and Chris Parnell will return to give us some more great robot banter.

The series is packed with iconic voices and other actors you might recognize, like Michael B Jordan, Topher Grace, Nolan North, Samira Wiley, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The question is; Will we get more cameos from some of Hollywood's biggest stars? Indeed, we will. The list of guests is growing exponentially with the return of Brener and company.

Coming into the fold for the first time is Christian Serratos, who played Rosita on the Walking Dead, joined by a few more familiar faces to be the center of their own short story titled, 'In Vaulted Halls Entombed' which we can speculate is about a group of Special Forces soldiers who embark on some kind of perilous journey into what can only be described as a big, wet cave.

The first two seasons of the series have shown us that consistency of mediums is not a requirement in the industry. In a few episodes of the first season, we see traditional 2D animation styles similar to other cartoons. However, as the show progresses and gets morally darker, as does the animation. Some episodes are animated classically while others are rendered much more intensely, therefore, looking nearly photo-realistic. So far, the trailer we received on the 9th gave us some more detail about the animation styles for stories yet to come.

Over the last few years, technology has advanced rapidly, and with the rollout of the newest 3D graphic creation tool, 'Unreal Engine 5', graphic rendering of animated games, shows, and other projects has never been more detailed and realistic. Therefore, the average viewer would definitely be forgiven for thinking the first two seasons were filmed via real cameras in an actual studio somewhere in California.

However, with the massive advancements in technology, it's mind-boggling to think that literally all twenty-six currently standing episodes are the result of computer rendering. So, will that still be the case heading into the third season? Of course, with more and more progress made every day, it's hard not to utilize every amazingly detailed pixel as much as possible. So far from the trailer, we've seen what seems to be quite a few 3D animated stories, along with a few stop-motion pictures.

While Tim Miller, the show's creator, and David Fincher, executive producer, are both integral parts of the creation of this beautiful and amazingly dark series, nearly every single episode across all three seasons was managed, edited, filmed, and produced by entirely separate teams from around the world.

In conclusion, what can be expected from Love, Death & Robots Volume 3? When invited to the Official Netflix Virtual Screening, I had extremely high hopes, and let's just say you won't want to be absent for what Netflix has in store for us on May 20th.
