Louis Leterrier, Director of 'The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance', Hopes The Series Could Return
It’s a time of turmoil in the film business. With the Writer Strike approaching two weeks, studios are releasing their earnings reports, simultaneously justifying the demands of the WGA and adjusting to a changing industry landscape. Layoffs are in full swing or within sight, and shows are being cut left and right.
Central in this historic moment is Netflix. Some rumors place Netflix as the main holdout on negotiations, but the pattern of cutting shows is something they are known for. One of those shows, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, is the prequel to the 1982 film The Dark Crystal by Jim Henson. Directed by Louis Leterrier, it was not renewed a few years back and went the route of several other shows on Netflix.

This is why Leterrier’s recent comments have raised some eyebrows, given the state of the industry. With the tenth film in the Fast & Furious franchise set to come out next week, which he directed, Gizmodo asked what the state of The Dark Crystal is and whether there’s a future. Leterrier wouldn’t give them any definitive answers because he commented “…I still have hope that it can come back.” He further added “So, I have high hopes. You know, it might not be me. It might be my grandson or, you know, Jim Henson’s great-grandson, but somebody will direct the rest of this show because we need to tell that story. And beyond. I mean, Thra is a place we want to go to.”
While it doesn’t seem likely that the show will be revived, especially given the climate, it’s refreshing to read the director is still so passionate about a project, especially one that by all indicators was well received and liked.
