Actors from The Lord of Rings have shown support to The Rings of Power cast following online racist attacks. Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd posed for a picture together in custom-made T-shirts showing solidarity with the new cast members.

The Shirts have pictures of Elf, Human, and Hobbit ears in a variety of skin tones, with the text “You are all welcome here” written in Tolkein’s elvish language above. Sean Astin, also tweeted a photo of himself wearing a baseball cap with the same design, completing the set of Hobbits from Peter Jackson’s trilogy supporting the new actors.

Ever since the show was announced, Amazon’s The Rings of Power has received a torrent of abuse and negative media online attention by internet trolls who are unhappy to see diverse casting in the project. The actors of Amazon’s show have also been targeted in a hate campaign. Following wider support from the industry by the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and Neil Gaiman, cast members from The Lord of the Rings also felt the need to stand up and show support for their fellow denizens of Middle-earth.

Wood, Monaghan, Boyd, and Astin all portray Hobbits in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Whilst Hobbits themselves don’t feature in The Rings of Power, The show does feature an early version of Hobbits which they call Harfoots.

The Rings of Power cast later released a joint statement on social media, using the same #YouAreAllWelcomeHere hashtag which The Lord of the Rings actors started, and similarly denouncing the racism that several cast members have faced.
