Live-Action 'How To Train Your Dragon' Adds New Cast Members
With the trend of animated turned live-action films, Universal/DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon was not going to be left behind. The movie franchise, comprising 3 movies and generating more than $1.6 billion worldwide, is based loosely on books by Cressida Cowell. The movies are definitely beloved, and this news has left many fans wondering how this live-action remake is going to go. Casting announcements are starting to come out and recently, Universal announced a few more of the big characters.
Already it has been announced that Mason Thames and Nico Parker will be playing the titular characters Hiccup and Astrid, respectively. The real excitement was the announcement of Gerard Butler who is reprising his role as Stoick the Vast, this time in live action. Nick Frost will be playing Gobber the Belch, who is another fan-favorite character.

With this new casting announcement, we now have all of the main characters of the movie, except for the dragons of course. Julian Dennison, known for Deadpool 2 and A24’s Y2K, will be Fishlegs. Gabriel Howell, known for the BBC’s Nightsleeper and Bodies, will be Snotlout. Bronwyn James, known for Wicked and Masters of the Air will be Ruffnut, and Harry Trevaldwyn, known for Ten Percent and The Bubble, will be Tuffnut.
The live-action How To Train Your Dragon is set to premiere on June 13, 2025, and is written, produced, and directed by Dean DeBlois along with Marc Platt who is producing the film as well. Hopefully, with these casting announcements coming out, we will get more news about this film soon.
