Lesyle Headland, the showrunner of Star Wars: The Acolyte, has given us some new insight into the making of the series. This also includes new ideas about the Sith, the ancient order who wields the dark side of the Force.

According to Headland, the inspiration for the series came during The Phantom Menace, where the Jedi knew about the Sith, despite them having been believed extinct. This led Headland to imagine a story set about a century prior to the series. Another inspiration comes from Knights of the Old Republic 2, as Headland says, “Darth Traya really stuck out to me as an inspiration.”

The Acolyte takes place in the High Republic era, before the Skywalker Saga. Headland chose this setting partially to give her more creative freedom, without any legacy characters or canon to worry about interfering with her work. The show centers around a murder mystery with former Jedi Mae (Amandla Stenberg), being lead by Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) and his new padawan Jecki Lon (Dafne Keen), with the Sith waiting in the shadows.

Soon, people will learn the secrets of the Sith, but until June 1, when The Acolyte launches on Disney+, all we can do is wait in the unknown regions of the internet.
